About the photo gallery
We hope you’ll find the Photo Gallery helpful and useful in gaining insights on store design, merchandising, and other aspects of retail operations. Exhibits for CGIN’s photo gallery have been developed by various leaders in the co-op and natural foods industry. Our thanks to those who have put together exhibits. The name of the “curator” of a specific exhibit is listed on the index page with the title of the exhibit.
NEW FEATURE: You can now download an archive of all pictures within a specific photo gallery. This will download a .TAR achive. You will need a .TAR unarchiving tool to open the file. We welcome any photos that you would like to submit or exhibits that you might like to put together on a topic of your choice. If you have suggestions for photo themes that you’d like to see us do an exhibit of contact the CGIN office.
Showing best and worst practices
Exhibits in the photo gallery are put together by a variety of contributors. In general, most of the photos illustrate good examples of store merchandising or design. However, it can be equally instructive to show examples of things that don’t work. Whenever a photo that shows a poor example is included, the store will not be identified. We encourage visitors to the CGIN Photo Gallery to view pictures from the perspective that there is something to learn from all examples. Photos illustrating excellent work will not show only perfection and photos showing poor examples will still provide ideas that can be useful.
Credits, captions, and formats
Wherever possible, all photos will include a credit for the photographer. Please be sure to get permission from the photographer for posting photos on the CGIN site before sending them in.
Exhibits will generally offer short captions that will clarify what the photo shows and other identifying information, as appropriate. We prefer exhibits that contain between six and 15 photos.
Please send photos in JPG format, formatted at 72 dpi and 500 pixels wide maximum, if possible. The less memory we consume with specific exhibits, the more exhibits we will be able to keep on the site.
