CGIN’s basic listserve provides a forum to facilitate communication among food co-ops and those involved with food co-ops. CGIN’s listserve is open to anyone who would like to subscribe. All new subscribers who follow the instructions listed below to subscribe will receive a message listing the commands (e.g. how to unsubscribe, how to change the delivery mode) for using the listserve, as well as CGIN’s overall rules for the listserve.
We request that all listserve participants keep their comments focused on topics related to cooperatives and the operations of food co-ops. We will not allow our listserve to be used for commercial purposes.

Basic Listserve Archives
You can look up any past message on the CGIN Listserve Archives.
Messages from the listserve since 1999 are available in the archive. Note, also, that it is CGIN’s policy that ALL messages sent out via the listserve shall remain in the archive except for extraordinary circumstances (e.g. someone sends out highly confidential or personal information via the listserve in error).
NOTE: Login is now required to access the CGIN listserve archive. This is NOT the login required of CGIN members to access the members-only part of the CGIN site. Like the listserve, the archive is open to anyone, CGIN member or not. However, this login helps prevent web “bots” from being able to harvest e-mail addresses off the archives to use in sending out spam messages. Use the following to access the listserve archive:
login: list
password: archive
Listserve policies:
Subscribers are welcome to:
- send any message via the list about matters related to the operations or organization of their co-op.
- use the list to “survey” others about practices.
- get reactions to proposed changes.
- pass along announcements related to co-op events or news.
- get references of helpful resources or contacts.
- announce the selling of used store equipment. (tip: post on Craigslist and send out listserve message containing the link to Criaglist ad)
- engage in discussion with other list subscribers about any co-op related issue.
The CGIN basic listserve may NOT be used for:
- advertisements or solicitations.
- circulating such things as petitions, a mass mailing requesting that e-mail messages be sent to someone, or a “chain letter”.
- forward warning messages without reliable confirmation e.g. a warning about mass computer flaws, rampant medical problems, etc.
We expect ALL subscribers to:
- be polite and respectful in their postings.
- use more descriptive subject lines and to change the subject line when the substance is different.
- keep in mind that this listserve is a public forum and your message will go to all subscribers exactly as you send it. It will be permanently archived on our website.
- offer their views on any particular topic once, or maybe twice at the most.
- not reply to each message on a topic. This does not encourage good dialogue and discourages others to contribute to a discussion.
- use their best judgment in sending messages out via the list.
- identify yourself, e-mail address, co-op/organization and city/state.
Subscribers who post messages that do not meet the above guidelines are subject to having all future messages moderated or having their access to the listserv terminated.
The CGIN listserve is not monitored; subscribers are allowed to send their messages out directly via the list. There is no screening of list messages.
