Human Resources Specialized Listserve

The HR listserve was formed after two years of e-mailing among a growing number of co-op managers with responsibilities in human resources (or as some co-ops call it, personnel administration). It springs from HR luncheon roundtables at the 2003 and 2004 CCMA conferences where topics of conversation were quite varied and interest was intense.

The purpose of this listserve is to facilitate discussion, provide some support, and share ideas and information about the many complex areas of concern to human resources employees at our food co-ops. We specifically intend to improve the results of that work. Listserve subscribers are individuals who are currently employed at a food co-op and engaged in human resources.

Subscription cost is $30 per year per e-mail address.

Basic listserve guidelines:

Subscribers are welcome to:

  • send out any message via the list about matters related to their work as HR and Personnel Administrative staff members of their co-ops. Subscriber’s messages are sent out directly to the list. There is no screening of list messages.
  • Prepare messages and replies to the listserve with issues of confidentiality in mind. In general, it’s best to avoid using names when describing a situation. A question about a problem can be posed without going into the specific circumstances. Asking for more detail should not require information that draws specific connections with known individuals.

The HR listserve may NOT be used to:

  • advertisements or solicitations.
  • circulating such things as petitions, a mass mailing requesting that e-mail messages be sent to someone, or a “chain letter”.
  • forward warning messages without reliable confirmation — e.g. a warning about mass computer flaws, rampant medical problems, etc

We expect all subscribers:

  • to be respectful of one another and others’ viewpoints in their postings.
  • keep in mind that the listserve is a public forum and your message will go to all subscribers exactly as you send it.
  • use good judgment in sending messages out via the list.
  • please be sure to identify yourself, e-mail address and co-op.
  • will ensure that the subject line of their message clearly explains what they are looking for.

Vacation messages – if you are planning on using a vacation message while you are out of the office, we ask that you notify the CGIN office. Auto responses are sent out every time a message is sent, so while you are away, your fellow listserve readers will be receiving an automated reply from you with every new listserve message. Please notify the CGIN office in advance if you will be away and need to use an automated notification service or if you simply do not want listserve messages to pile up in your inbox. If you forget and we get automated replies to the whole listserve, the CGIN office will temporary unsubscribe your email address while you are away (and send you a message notifying you that this has happened). Then simply send the office a message letting us know you have returned and need to be re-subscribed. Note that you can also easily review all listserve conversations while unsubscribed by reviewing the HR listserve archive (information above).
